Managing your time every day is a daily reality. It also isn’t something that will go away, since you never arrive and keep your focus 100% of the time. It requires daily awareness and management of self, because really the risk is YOU- you might get distracted or struggle to stay focused on your top priorities. Even with unexpected interruptions, you still have the choice to say yes or no.
You have probably been working on time management practices for years and have some good habits or tools in place to help you do that. At a certain point, however it becomes more about managing your energy in a way that will leverage your time well and support you to not only get the most done, but the most important tasks and projects done well.
Have you ever been ready to tackle an important goal or project and were unable to focus or have the clarity required? Perhaps you had the time and willingness, but just didn’t have the energy to make it happen at that moment.
So, providing that you’re managing time fairly well, the next question becomes, how will you manage your energy to be more productive so that you will be able to get to your top goals or priorities for the week or day?
In my experience with productivity frustrations, I find it’s often not that I don’t have the time. I do, and providing you don’t have extenuating circumstances, you do too. Being able to get to those important projects requires a lot of energy, and even when I’m staring at a planned 5-7PM focus period for a project, I sometimes just don’t have the energy or mental clarity after working all day. The reality is though, sometimes you need to work more, and/or work on more projects that require higher levels of energy and mental clarity. So, what do you do?
